How tags work

Tags help you organize transactions in a way that makes sense for you.

Categories are handled by Stowe, but tags give you another layer of organization. You can use tags to group transactions for a trip, project, event, reimbursement, tax item, or anything else you want to track.

Add a tag to a transaction

To add a tag:

  1. Open Stowe.

  2. Find the transaction you want to tag.

  3. Tap into the transaction.

  4. Tap Tag.

  5. Create a new tag or choose an existing tag.

  6. Save your changes.

Create a new tag

When you tap Tag on a transaction, you can create a new tag.

For example, you might create tags like:

  • Vacation

  • Work expense

  • Reimbursement

  • Renovation

  • Wedding

  • Taxes

  • Kids

  • Shared purchase

Use whatever names make sense for how you want to review your spending later.

Add an existing tag

If you have already created a tag, you can tap it to attach it to the transaction.

This helps you keep related transactions together over time.

Search or filter by tag

After tagging transactions, you can use filters in the Spending tab to find transactions with a specific tag.

This is useful when you want to review all spending connected to a certain event, project, or purpose.

When to use tags

Tags are helpful when a transaction belongs to a personal context that a normal spending category does not fully capture.

For example:

  • A restaurant charge might be part of a vacation.

  • A hardware store purchase might be part of a renovation.

  • A grocery order might be part of hosting family.

  • A purchase might need to be reimbursed later.

The category tells you what kind of spending it was. The tag tells you what it was for.
